Google My Business Renames to Become Google Business Profile

Why the Change to Google Business Profile?

Google has said the reason for the name change is to keep things simple. Over the Years Google Business Profile has gone by many names, previously it was Google My Business, previous to that google places, and Google + Local there have been a few other names before these as the platform was starting out.

What does it mean now Google My Business is going away? The new change is more geared towards single listing profiles. For many small businesses, this change will make keeping up to date with your profile easier as there is no need to login to an additional app or browser to manage your google my business profile.

If you are a regular user of Google Business profile you may have noticed when you are logged in you have been able to see details about your Google Business Profile at the top of search results for some time. Here you can also make changes to your profile.

Google has said that the existing Google My Business infrastructure will transition to support larger businesses or businesses with multiple locations which will be renamed ‘Business Profile Manager’. Meaning if you have multiple locations or manage multiple profiles, as I do for my customers as an example. You will still use to the existing interface but with a few changes to come.

Some new Google Business Profile Features:

  • Claim and manage your google business profile directly in google search and maps
  • In the US and Canada, call history is being released
  • You can directly interact with customers that have messaged you directly from search and manage read receipts

How do I access Google Business Manager now?

When logged in to your google account and assuming you have already claimed your Google Business Profile, search for your business name in Google search or on Google maps or search ‘my business’.
